Premier League: Soham RHC 9th February 2019

On Saturday 9th February Kings Lynn RHC Premier League team took the short journey to local rivals Soham for their latest fixture in the league.

The game started brightly and Lynn felt they should have had the lead within the first 10 seconds of the game only to be denied by some last ditch defending from the hosts. After four minutes of play a blue card was given to a Soham player who took a seat in the sin bin for two minutes and Lynn took full advantage of the direct free hit with Josh Taylor scoring to net his first of the game. Shortly after Lynn were pegged back when the hosts scored their first from penalty spot. With many chances being created by both sides it was Lynn who would regain their lead through Man of match Matt Baker. Lynn doubled their lead when in form Owen Norris scored his 4th goal in two games.

Half Time: Soham 1 – 3 Kings Lynn

The second half began in much of the same fashion. Lynn enjoying their fair share of possession and creating well worked chances. Matt Baker picked up another goal to add to his tally before Josh Taylor added his second to give Lynn a convincing 5 – 1 lead.

Despite being in control as indicated by the score line, Lynn were reduced to three players for a period of four minutes. Soham converted from the resulting to penalty to reduce the visitors lead to three goals and Lynn were under real pressure to hold their lead whilst playing with one less player. The team worked hard and were soon rewarded after a string of quality saves from Josh Roberts in the Lynn goal and then Josh Taylor seized on a loose ball to then beat another player and finish against the watching goalkeeper. Soham immediately pulled the goal back from the restart only for Matt Baker to add his third and fourth goals before the final whistle.

Final Score: Soham 3 – 8 Kings Lynn

Man of the Match: Matt Baker
