Kings Lynn’s Senior A team were in action this weekend, hoping for a good start at their home tournament to help in their title defence in the Eastern Counties League Division 1.
Facing Letchworth in their first match of this season, they were up against a team that, like themselves, also contained Premier League players. On paper, it was going to be a hard match. The match started tentatively, however Lynn started to impose themselves and midway through the first half were 2 – 0 up, until a mix up in the defence let Letchworth pull a goal back. As the half drew to an end, two quick goals from Matt Baker and Owen Norris put Lynn in a good position 4 – 1 at half time.
The second half started well for Lynn as they again scored two quick goals from Owen and Josh Taylor. The team were in full control scoring two more goals, before Letchworth again scored at the end.
Final Score Kings Lynn 9 – 2 Letchworth
The second match was against the newly promoted Colchester team. Colchester were on the defensive from the start and Lynn controlled the game comfortably. The team scored freely with the pick of the goals coming from Owen Norris with a superb top corner finish.
Final score Kings Lynn 9 – 0 Colchester
Next were Peterborough and this was again expected to be a tough match. Kings Lynn scored first through Josh Taylor and this seemed to open the door as Lynn again scored freely to take a very healthy 8 – 0 lead at half time. This was a surprise to most people and Lynn again managed to keep a clean sheet as they finished the game with three more goals in the second half.
Final Score King’s Lynn 11 – 0 Peterborough
Full of confidence, the team went into their last match of the day against Norwich, the newly promoted League 2 Champions. This proved to be Lynn’s hardest match and strong performances by both sides saw them cancel each other out and at half time, it was very even with the scores tied at 1 – 1. The second half saw Lynn strike with three quick goals within a minute to put some space between the teams, before Norwich then pulled another goal back to keep them interested. Lynn however kept their nerve and imposed themselves on the game and scored again to finally put the match beyond reach.
Final Score Kings Lynn 5 – 2 Norwich
A very good performance from the team, especially from the new members of the squad Owen Norris, Josh Horn & Josh Roberts who all slotted in and played very well.
