Premier League Report:
Kings Lynn RHC vs Letchworth RHC
Over the weekend Kings Lynn RHC had a double header of fixtures in the premier league. On Saturday evening the opponents were Letchworth RHC who are closely behind Lynn in the league table.
The game started quietly with both sides looking to calmly play themselves into the game. First on to the scoreboard were the hosts with a well executed team goal, which fell to Sam Kay at the back post to finish into an empty net with style. From this point Letchworth were keen to capitalise on any slight mistake made by Lynn and soon found themselves not only with one goal on the board but two after some slack defending.
It took the home side then a little bit of time to regain their composure and their patience soon paid off. A lifted pass to the far post came to Jamie Griffin who smartly finished after taking the ball out of the air to hammer it home. Letchworth weren’t settling for a level game and soon found the net for the third time pegging Lynn back once again but this time the home side were quick to reply this time through Matt Baker with a smart wrap-around the goal to catch the keeper off guard.
Half Time King’s Lynn 3 – 3 Letchworth
Into the second half and Lynn needed to focus to rectify the mistakes in the first half. However they were undone in much the same fashion as the first three goals through some poor defending. After the goal to make the game 4 – 3, the game settled. Both sides exchange attacks and possession waiting for the right opening. Again it was Letchworth who were next on the scoresheet to take the game to 5 – 3. Lynn really had to work to even salvage a draw from this game. After adapting the tactics slightly the way back into the game arrived. A clinical pass found Josh Taylor in the middle of the penalty area unmarked to finish underneath the goalkeeper. At 5 – 4 pressure from the home side began to take its toll on the travelling side and after committing foul after foul they conceded a free hit on the edge of the penalty area. A tactical move expertly finished off with a powerful drive pinging off the underside of the bar and into the back of the net from Matt Baker drew the hosts level with little more than four minutes left on the clock. The home side now sensed they could go onto to take all three points from a game where they had very much been the weaker of the sides. The support completely on their side from the watching crowd were doing all they could to push the team on for a win. With just over a minute to go Josh Taylor broke free through the Letchworth defence to clinically finish past the onlooking goalkeeper into the top corner to give Lynn a 6 – 5 lead going into the final minute. Nervous times for both sides as the final whistle neared but Lynn kept their cool and took the win to maintain their unbeaten home record.
