Premier League 25th March 2017
King’s Lynn RHC v HBU
Kings Lynn RHC returned to home action in the National Premier League over the weekend and were facing an in form Herne Bay United.
The game started brightly for the hosts who grabbed two early goals to take control through Josh Taylor. However HBU soon replied with a goal themselves to set the tone for what was going to be a high scoring affair. Lynn attempted to regain their two goal advantage and were rewarded a few minutes later with a further goal from Taylor to take his 3rd goal shortly followed by a 4th. The travelling side were in no mood to be blown over and pulled the game back to level terms after some costly errors in the home defence.
Despite being under pressure for much of the final ten minutes of the first half Kings Lynn went into half time 5 – 4 up after Matt Baker found himself in behind the defence to round the goalkeeper and finish into the net.
Half Time: Kings Lynn RHC 5 – 4 Herne Bay United
Into the second half and again it was to be Kings Lynn who would enjoy the more successful opening encounters. Sam Kay created space for himself to flick the ball into the roof of the net to restore a two goal lead. Matt Baker then soon followed with a second goal of his own after some clever build up play. With a three goal lead Lynn appeared to take their foot off of the gas and HBU capitalised and soon found themselves back on level terms and with five minutes to go everything was to play for.
Kings Lynn couldn’t find a way through and HBU gained the advantage for the first time in the game. Lynn then had to push to find an equaliser but it wasn’t to be as the visiting side took a two goal lead into the final two minutes of play.
Following the goal Lynn had a player sin binned leaving the side with three players for the remainder of the game. Despite being shorthanded, Lynn scored a further goal, but it was Herne Bay United who took the win.
An exciting game from start to finish for the supporters in attendance. Unfortunately for Kings Lynn this was a first loss in the season but hopefully one that inspires the team to pick themselves up and improve for the second half of the year. Well played to HBU who never gave up despite trailing for the most part of the game.
