EC Division 1 Match Report: 4th June 2017
King’s Lynn B Home Tournament
Kings Lynn A team started the day at the top of league going into their final tournament of the season. Three wins on the day would see them take the league title.
The first game was up against a young Cottenham side. Lynn were quickly into their stride and soon found the back of the net through Jack Tucker and Matt Baker. Dominance continued for the most part of the game with Jamie Griffin and Josh Taylor also adding to the score line.
Halftime Score: Cottenham 1 – 11 Kings Lynn A
Cottenham grabbed a couple of consolation goals as Kings Lynn ran out winners with a score line of 21 – 2.
Final Score: Cottenham 2 – 21 Kings Lynn A
Second game of the day was the crunch game against Soham. With a draw in the last meeting between the sides, a win on the day for either side would see that team take the edge in the title race. Everything was to play for.
Soham despite being on the back foot took the lead but that was soon cancelled out by Josh Taylor just before half time to see the two sides go into the break with a goal a piece.
Halftime Score: Soham 1 – 1 Kings Lynn A
The Second half was a defensive one from both sides. Chances came at both ends but nothing was to be converted. Kasia Parfitt in the Lynn goal pulled off some crucial saves and then with just under four minutes from time, Lynn were awarded a direct free hit after a Soham player was Blue carded. Josh Taylor stepped up again and converted to give Lynn the lead. With a lead to defend Lynn ran the clock down and took the important win 2 – 1.
Final Score: Soham 1 – 2 Kings Lynn A
Final game of the day was against Kings Lynn B. With both sides very familiar with each other’s style of play, they cancelled each other out after the early encounters. Lynn A then found their scoring boots and each player got themselves onto the score sheet whilst Kathryn Baker defended her goal well.
Halftime Score: Kings Lynn B 2 – 8 Kings Lynn A
Lynn B’s heads went down after a few goals and Lynn A capitalised and took full advantage taking their chances clinically. Lynn B did themselves on the scoreboard but a comeback wasn’t to be and Lynn A ran out 15 – 2 winners.
Final Score: Kings Lynn B 2 – 15 Kings Lynn A
A successful end to a successful season that sees Kings Lynn A take the Eastern Counties Division 1 league title after remaining unbeaten for 18 games only dropping a single point in a draw with runners up Soham.
