Premier League 7th January 2017
Soham RHC v King’s Lynn RHC

Jamie v Soham RHC 7th January 2017Kings Lynn RHC travelled to Soham for their first premier league game since the turn of the year. This highly anticipated game was between two unbeaten sides so far this season.

The game started in a nervy manner for Lynn and they didn’t make use of their possession, giving the ball away in silly situations throughout the early stages of the game. Despite this it was the away side that were first on the score sheet. Michael Carter finding the net after a mistake from the Soham defence. It wasn’t long before Carter had his second of the game. This time a clever piece of individual play saw him skip past the defender and neatly tuck away the finish into the top corner of the net. Soham were rattled from this point onwards and began to lose their discipline. Lynn’s third goal came from the penalty spot through Josh Taylor after a Soham player committed a foul off of the ball. Now settled into the game Lynn were dominant and in a commanding position and it didn’t take them long to find the net for the fourth time. Jack Tucker the goal scorer, tipping the ball past the watching goalkeeper at the far post. With the score at 4-0 a Soham player had a moment of madness and was shown a straight red card for violent conduct towards a member of the Kings Lynn side. Lynn continued to dominate the play heading into the half time break.

Half time: Soham RHC 0 – 4 Kings Lynn

Into the second half and Soham began with only three players following the red card at the end of the first half. It took Lynn all of thirty seconds to find the net and it was Carter once again who popped up to clinch his third goal of the match. With discipline a key factor in the game it was Lynn who kept their heads and frustrated Soham into making silly fouls that soon accumulated in to a direct free hit for reaching ten team fouls. Jamie Griffin who was later voted man of the match stepped up confidently and delivered a moment of brilliance to slot the ball into the back of the net.  With the match score now at 0 – 6 Lynn took their foot off the gas and began to play the ball around with confidence. Unfortunately after showing great confidence in their play Lynn conceded a goal from slack defending as Soham grabbed a consolation goal. Lynn soon picked themselves up again and played the game out in a manner typical of a side who were full of confidence and saw them take a comfortable 6 – 1 away win.
