u13’s Match Report: 7th February 2015
The Under 13’s clinched the league on Saturday with three more victories.
In the first game against our closest rivals Cottenham Orange, the youngsters knew that this would be our toughest game to date. Defeat would mean that Cottenham Orange could still catch us up for the race to first place, depending on other results, however every player put in possibly their best performance of the season.
As expected it was very close early on with both teams very solid in defence, giving nothing away. Lynn with the majority of possession looked more likely to break through and finally got their goal with excellent team work, Ethan smashing the ball home to take the lead. Minutes later Fin added another with a well worked goal, some quick one touch passing with Ethan took out the opposition’s defence and Lynn led 2 – 0 at half time.
In the second half, we still looked in control, until Cottenham Orange scored with a scrappy goal, but with Josh putting in a great performance in goal and Joseph solid as ever in defence, things were still looking good. As the clock began to run down, Ryan slotted home to take the pressure off and we took the game 3 – 1.
Final score: King’s Lynn 3 – 1 Cottenham Orange
One point in our second game against Cottenham Yellow would be enough to win the title. The youngsters went into the interval 3 – 1 up and finished the job off with three more goals in the second half, taking the game 6 – 1.
Final score: King’s Lynn 6 – 1 Cottenham Yellow
Already home and dry, Lynn looked a bit too laid back in the last game against Peterborough and went 2 – 0 down before half time. But with a great fight back they wanted to finish the tournament still on a high and quickly stuck away three goals of their own, only for Peterborough to equalize two minutes from time. Not to be outdone Fin and Ryan combined well, right from the centre and Fin slotted the ball home within seconds to take the game 4 – 3. A great fight back from the whole team. Jason and Arthur were very solid in defence, when called upon and kept giving the team support throughout!
Final score: Peterborough 3 – 4 King’s Lynn
With 15 wins from 16 games Kings Lynn deservedly won the under 13’s title. Every member of the team played their part and gave 100%, every minute of every game.
A special mention to Ryan Howlett, who, after a long distance move, made the 300 mile round trip to help us win the league.
Congratulations to you all and well done!!!
