u17 Report: 5th Jan 2019

Kings Lynn under 17’s kicked off 2019 with their third tournament against ECU Gold, Letchworth and Cottenham on Saturday 5 January 2019 at Cambridge Regional College.

First match against ECU Gold saw new U17 player Thomas Barker get his first goal for the team. It all came from the whole team passing the ball well around the rink and followed an accurate pass from Harvey Dugdale for Thomas to hit the back of the net, at close range. As the game went on KL relaxed and started to gain confidence in their passing and shooting. Only the ECU Keeper kept the score count down low with outstanding saves, but three goals from Harvey and one from Joseph helped them to the win.

KL team however did let they guard down for ECU to score two goals.

Final Score: King Lynn 5 – 2 ECU Gold

Goal Scorers:

  • Harvey Dugdale (3)
  • Thomas Barker
  • Joseph Hawes

The second game against Letchworth was a friendly, so Kings Lynn used this to try out some different tactics and give the new players some more experience on the rink. Lynn’s first goal came after sixteen seconds from the start when Joseph dribbled around the Letchworth team to slap shot the ball in to the net. Lynn’s second goal came from the penalty spot after Ria, who was brought down, kept her cool to slot it under the goalkeeper. With both teams attacking and defending well KL were not able to hold on to the lead and Letchworth scored two late goals in the second half to beat KL.

Final score Kings Lynn 3 – 4 Letchworth

Goal Scorers:

  • Ria Griffin
  • Joseph Hawes
  • Harvey Dugdale

Last match against Cottenham was a fast and tough game with both teams going for the win. It took a good team effort from KL to break the deadlock, for Joseph to score from yet another great pass from Harvey.  KL dug in deep as a team to finish the first half 2 – 1 ahead.

The second half saw Letchworth come out hard and they were able to pin back KL in their own area. Eventually KL were caught out by two great goals. However, the team did not give up and with only twenty two seconds left on the clock KL regained the ball from behind they goal. With an amazing attacking passing movement between Harvey and Joseph the ball was fired towards the Letchworth goal area for Joseph to volley the ball home to draw the match with the goal of the tournament.

Final score King Lynn 3 – 3 Cottenham

Goal Scorers:

  • Joseph Hawes (2)
  • Harvey Dugdale
